Cannot open the Realize assignment in Canvas or Schoology

When you open a Realize assignment inside of your LMS, you may get an error. You may get the Savvas login page or the assignment may never load and the Realize assignment is blank as seen below:

This is likely caused by your browser blocking third party cookies. When you are opening a Realize assignment within your LMS course your browser may be blocking you from accessing the Savvas content which is in an iFrame.

To fix this issue, you need to change your privacy settings in your browser. Below are the directions on how to change you privacy settings for different browsers.

If you or your students cannot change the browser settings, the other option is to set the assignment to open in a new tab as shown at the end of this page.

How to resolve this issue

Chrome

For Chrome you may experience the issue of not being able to open the content in Incognito mode.  You will need to turn off "Block third=party cookies in Incognito." Instead you will want to turn on "Allow all cookies." To get to this setting page follow the Google's help page.

Firefox

In Firefox you will need to allow third party cookies. We also recommend you turn off Enhanced Settings.

Allowing third party cookies

To change your setting simply go to the Settings page.

Click on Privacy & Security page.

Change the browser privacy from Standard or Strict to Custom. Uncheck Cookies to allow third party cookies.

Next, turn off Enhanced Tracking Protection. To stat click on the shield in the URL window.

Turn off Enhanced Tracking Protection for this site.

Firefox will reload the browser pages. You should now be able to access all Savvas content.

Safari on a Mac

Safari, unlike Chrome, blocks all third party cookies. To use Safari you will need to turn off "Prevent Cross Site Tracking."

Open Safari Preferences, by clicking on the `Safari` menu on the left of the menu bar, and clicking on `Preferences`, or by pressing `⌘,`.

Click on the `Privacy` tab.

Uncheck the `Prevent cross-site tracking` check box.

Close the Preferences window.

Alternative option for Canvas: Open assignments in a new window

You can also avoid any issues opening content within Canvas by simply having Savvas items open in a new window. This will eliminate the issue.

Simply go to the edit assignment screen and select "Load This Tool In A New Tab."

When a student opens the assignment in Canvas they will see the Load Assignment button which will open a new browser tab.
